If you are looking for a caffeine fix in Thailand, look no further than Koh Phangan. This dreamy island situated on the Gulf has almost as many delicious coffee shops as it does beaches. We ventured out and indulged in a cup of Joe (or two) to figure out which ones were the most noteworthy. Here, the best coffee shops on Koh Phangan.
Note: Every cafe we visited served soy, coconut, or almond milk as a milk substitute, so all vegan travelers are free to indulge at every one of these coffee shops!

Dot’s Coffee

Coffee connoisseurs will want to head to Dot’s Coffee. Almost everything about this cafe is ideal. From its amazing location right next to the Pantip Night Market to the floor to ceiling windows that allow visitors to people watch, this cafe is one that encourages all to stay longer. The wall in the back of the venue is decorated with psychedelic art that will keep customers transfixed while they enjoy their coffee. The idea for the name of the coffee shop came from a quote by Steve Jobs:

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.”

Coffee Drinks Haad Rin @ Koh Phangan

Wake up after a long night of partying at Coffee Drinks Haad Rin @ Koh Phangan. The name of the cafe may be a bit long-winded, but every other aspect of its entity is on point. One of this cafe’s biggest claim to fame is its unique décor. Wooden floors with concrete walls are decked out with old pictures of Thailand, including ones of the previous King. Tables tops are made of glass, and underneath you will find some interesting Thai souvenirs and old camera gear. The coffee shop is also equipped with plenty of brochures and guidebooks to help you explore the country. Enjoy your brew under the island’s sun in the outdoor seating area. If you need a break from the heat, instead take advantage of the chilly air conditioning inside. There is also lightning fast Wi-Fi, and the friendly owner, Duke, is happy to give suggestions on things to see and do on the islandThe coffee shop is within walking distance of Haad Rin Beach where the infamous Full Moon party is held.

Hive Cafe

Ideally situated in Baan Tai is Hive Cafe. The owner is almost as cute as the small cafe is, and she is more than happy to share her local wisdom with all visitors of Hive to help them better explore the island. While bad cover songs play in the background, it is a great spot to sit and escape from the craziness that can be Koh Phangan. Quietly enjoy an affordable coffee or chat with the owner. The Wi-Fi is super speedy, and the cafe is also centrally located, so you can fuel up here before heading to your next destination. Alas, seating here is super minimal, with only a handful of chairs to choose from, so grab a cup to go or come early to claim your seat.

The Fat Cat

Those in need of some liquid therapy should check out The Fat Cat Coffee & More. This cafe is the perfect venue for cat and coffee lovers alike, as it is decked out in cat paraphernalia and serves up some of the best coffee on the island. The cafe itself is worth relaxing or working in, and there are plenty of overhead fans to help keep customers cool as their storefront is open to the busy street. The plain, concrete floors are complimented with white metal seating that gives the venue both a quaint and laid-back vibe. The owners hail from Portugal and are all about spreading the word about spaying and neutering animals in Thailand, as well. This is great considering the island is sadly home to one too many stray animals. Lastly, be sure to check out the owner’s cat tattoos: they are almost as cool as she is.

Nira’s Home Bakery

Nira’s Home Bakery is one of the largest cafes on our list, so if you are traveling with a group, this is the place to frequent. The coffee shop doubles as accommodation and has been around since 1985; it remains a local favorite. The bakery bit of this cafe also has one of the most extensive menus out of all our favorite coffee shops on the island, with one too many enticing baked goods to choose from. Slow jazz serenades customers while they take in the smell of fresh coffee being brewed and pastries being made. Nira’s Home Bakery is right across the street from the beach, as well. Large windows allow visitors to look out whilst enjoying their fresh cup of Joe. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available.

Bubba’s Coffee Bar

Bubba’s Coffee Bar has slowly but surely risen to fame on the island. When we first arrived on Koh Phangan, it was the first coffee shop anyone suggested we visit. We soon found out why. In addition to its chill vibe and cool staff, Bubba’s Coffee Bar’s menu is equipped with drinks and dishes you did not know the island even offered. This includes a delicious acai bowl that was almost too pretty to eat. This cafe is a strong choice for a cup of coffee, as well. All of the coffee is organic and imported from the northern city of Chiang Mai. The homemade chai is also a great go-to. Their mixture of black tea and exotic spices bind together with honey making for a memorable and sweet flavor.  The small venue is normally packed with backpackers staying at the hostel across the way. If you are traveling alone, Bubba’s Coffee Bar is one place you will surely meet a few fellow explorers at. The quaint space is outfitted with bright tables and beachy goods for purchase, so whether you need a caffeine fix or a new swimsuit, this is the place to be.

If you are needing a break from Thai food, Luna’s Cafe is the venue to visit. This cafe is a great spot for those wanting breakfast or lunch as the menu is filled with mains ready to fill you up. Good portion sizes are matched with tasty food which explains the slightly elevated prices (but worth every baht). The veggie-friendly find has a number of meat-free mains as well as vegan milk to add to a cup of coffee. The hip cafe is only serving up quality arabica coffee, as well. Art Cafe Library and Tea House

Those looking for a unique coffee shop experience need to check out Art Cafe Library and Tea House. We know we are writing about the best coffee shops on the island, but one of the main reasons to visit this venue is to try one of their smoothie bowls. There are a few fruity options, like the pina colada bowl made with banana, pineapple, mango, and coconut (฿150). Then, you get to add three toppings of your choice, with everything from dried goji berries to peanut butter on the menu. Art Cafe is also serving up breakfast, salads, different types of tea, mains, sandwiches, and appetizers. Luckily for vegans, Art Cafe Library and Tea House also serve up vegan banana bread as well as a few other sweet options to end a meal with. As its name suggests, the cafe doubles as a library. Feel free to sit and read a book while enjoying your meal.

Mad Monkey tip: If you bring a book to donate, you get a free coffee or tea, as well!

Hundred Islands Coffee Bar

Visitors to Hundred Islands Coffee Bar will feel like they are in a tree house as opposed to a coffee shop. Its wooden exterior is complemented with ample seating, yet these chairs often cannot accommodate all those who visit during the high season.
