With fish amok being Cambodia’s national dish, vegans and vegetarians visiting the country may at first be sceptical as to what they’ll be able to eat. There is one city that is slaying the vegan scene in the Kingdom, however — we are talking about Siem Reap. Keep reading to find out all of the restaurants that are 100 percent vegan, vegetarian, or meat-free friendly that you should try!
Vegan Restaurants in Siem Reap
Do you live a vegan lifestyle? Then be sure to check out the following venues, where you can order anything your heart desires…including desserts!
Vegan Cheese & More: Roots Cafe
Roots Cafe is one of the most renowned, 100 percent vegan restaurants in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This venue is on the grounds of a garden with a handful of large, wooden tables and chairs to choose from. The entire restaurant is surrounded by green foliage which certainly adds to the vegan vibe, but what really makes this restaurant stand out is its enticing and delicious vegan menu. To every dairy-free vegan’s delight, there are a few items on the menu which feature vegan cheese — a coveted menu item not many of us are lucky enough to indulge in! One of these is the Pesto Grilled Cheese ($8), which we highly recommend.
This sandwich comes with vegan mozzarella and basil pesto (without the anchovies) grilled on thick slices of sourdough bread and served with the only thing a grilled cheese — tomato bisque! This delightful dish will certainly have you feeling nostalgic of your childhood days when this meal was the daily norm. Other recommended dishes include their:
- “Better than Tuna” Melt ($6)
- Sweet Chili Cauliflower Wings ($5.50)
Don’t forget to end your meal with one of their delicious vegan desserts, including the Vegan Chocolate Chunk Cookie ($1.50).

Italian, Mexican, and Khmer Vegan Food: Green-Go Garden
Vegans simply drool over one of Siem Reap’s newest vegan restaurants: Green-Go Garden. It’s only been open since December 2017 but has already taken the meat-free scene by storm. Owner Norbert Vella Malta and his wife are behind this delicious eatery, which officially launched its new menu (we didn’t know it could get even better) at the end of May! Be sure to sink your teeth into:
- Mushroom and spinach ravioli ($6): mushrooms, spinach, onions, garlic and nutmeg in tomato sauce with vegan Parmesan
- Pumpkin ravioli ($5.50): made in a homemade sage butter sauce
- Burrito ($6.50): a tortilla wrap brimming with chili con ‘carne’ mix, lettuce, bell peppers, sweet corn, and vegan sour cream
- Warm chickpea salad ($4.50): made with chickpeas, sundried tomatoes, parsley, cucumber, chili flakes garlic, lime, and olive oil (four new salads total!)
Khmer and International Dishes
They also have gluten-free, spicy, and nut symbols so that you know exactly what you’re getting before ordering. If you want to be local, be sure to try their Mushroom and Tofu Lok Lak ($5.50).
Better yet, this venue uses eco-friendly takeaway boxes (Grace Simple — check them out) and biodegradable everything, from napkins to bags and more. In addition, this restaurant is decked out in foliage-inspired murals all done by expats. If you are an artist living in the city or traveling through, they are looking for even more murals, so be sure to get in contact with them!
Finish your meal with one of their desserts, like the Nutella Pizza ($6.50), or try their cake of the day, which can be oreo cakes, mango and chocolate cakes, fruit cheesecakes, vegan ice cream, and much more.

Vegan Restaurant that Aids Poor Provinces: Vegetal Wonder
Vegetal Wonder is a 100 percent vegan cuisine restaurant nestled on Terrazas Road in Siem Reap. The menu features both international and western cuisine, with everything from appetizers, salads, mains, and desserts to drool over. Some of our favorite dishes included their:

- Burgers ($5.50): choice of three including jackfruit BBQ, veggie bean steak, and mushroom steak
- Chili Sin Carne ($5.75): kidney beans, corn, soy protein, tomato sauce, and spices
In addition to having a wide variety of menu items to choose from, this restaurant has a larger goal in mind — 100 percent of their benefits go to their Project for Cambodia. This initiative aims to provide books, wells, English programs, and health education programs to poor people in and outside of the Siem Reap province. The venue exists for this initiative alone so you can feel great about eating your meatless dish for an affordable price.

Marum
Marum is run by Kaliyan Mith, an NGO that works with street children and other disadvantaged people in Siem Reap since 2005. This venue is one of our favorite restaurants in town. In addition to having plenty of vegan and vegetarian menu items, this restaurant also has an artisan shop just adjacent the venue: Friends ‘N’ Stuff. All of the items are made by caregivers who work with Kaliyan Mith. You can browse handmade items by locals, knowing that whatever money you spend is going right back into the community, including the ability to keep their children in school and help build futures for their families. You are literally making a difference with every dollar that you spend!

Khmer Rouge Survivor & Restaurant Owner: Tevy’s Place
Tevvy’s Place is located right across the street from Footprints Cafe. While there is already a wide selection of both vegan and vegetarian options on the menu, almost every dish can be made meat-free, as well. Prices are some of the cheapest of all the venues on our list. For example, fruit smoothies start at $1 and you can get an entire meal for under $3! Tevy is the owner of the restaurant, and she lost many of her family members to the Khmer Rouge. She opened the restaurant to help take care of her mother, so you know your money is going to a good cause. We seriously can’t recommend this venue enough for omnivores and carnivores visiting Siem Reap!
