Kuta Beach: Best Beach in Lombok for Food & Drink

Thanks to its central location, this is the most popular and busiest beach in Kuta Lombok. Kuta Beach offers a beautiful view of long stretches of sand overlooking the mountains. Even though there aren’t sunbeds and beach shacks on the beach and it is not very popular for swimming due to many departing boats. We recommend Kuta Beach for a sunset stroll and to check out the best cafes and restaurants in town. From beach bars to coffee shops and restaurants, there are so many places where you can taste international cuisines as well as traditional foods. Also, for a sunset cocktail or bar hopping there is no better place than Kuta.

Aan Beach: Best Beach in Lombok for Swimming and Sunset Watching

Tanjung Aan Beach is what your Lombok travel dreams are made of. Think aqua-blue water, a long stretch of white sand beach, and epic island scenery. This postcard-esque beach is one the most beautiful beaches on Lombok Island for swimming and sunbathing. Enjoy the still water, sip a coconut on the powdery sand, and watch a spectacular sunset.

You can reach Tanjung Aan Beach with a 20-minute drive from Kuta Lombok and there is no entrance fee to the beach. There are many beach shacks with iconic swings in the water and you don’t need to pay for the sunbeds and umbrellas if you eat or drink. 

While you’re here, take a 5-minute drive to Bukit Merese which is a viewpoint that allows you to see Tanjung Aan Beach and Kuta Beach from a clifftop. It’s also one of the best places to watch the sunset on Lombok Island.

Bonus: Tanjung Aan Beach is a great surf spot for beginner and intermediate surfers. You can rent a surfboard from one of the surf shacks for 50k IDR and take a 2-hour surf lesson for 150k IDR. In order to reach the surf breaks, you need to take a 10-minute boat which can be easily arranged by surf shacks for 50k IDR.  

Selong Belanak: The Most Scenic Beach in Lombok

Situated west of Kuta Lombok, you can reach this amazing white-sand beach with a half an hour drive from Kuta Beach. The road is in great condition to drive and there is no entrance fee to the beach. Selong Belenak is one of the longest stretches of sand on the island and if you go early, you can see the iconic buffalo crossing on the beach. 

Selong Belang is perfect for having a chilled beach day, swimming in the crystal clear water, and taking a beginner surf lesson. Pick a colorful bean bag or a sunbed from one of many beach shacks, grab a cold drink, and enjoy the beautiful scenery. This beach is also known for being one of the best spots for learning to surf thanks to its sand bottom and you can arrange a surf lesson for 150k IDR.

Mawun: Best Beach in Lombok for Relaxing

Nestled between lush green mountains, this beach has picturesque blue watercolor. Mawun Beach is a 20-minute drive from Kuta Lombok and is great for having a lazy beach day. Its powdery white sand and crystal clear water are perfect for swimming and suntanning. You can rent sunbeds and umbrellas for 50k IDR and there are a few beach shacks where you can try traditional food and grab a cold coconut. 

Gerupuk : Best Surf Breaks Near Kuta Lombok

Lombok has some of the best surf breaks in Indonesia. That being said, Gerupuk is a must-visit small town located 10 km east of Lombok which will be your getaway to famous surf spots. In order to reach these surf spots, you need to take the private boats that can take up to 4 people for 150k IDR and check several surf spots around Gerupuk. The boat will wait for 2 hours and then take you back to Gerupuk.  

Areguling Beach: Best Beach in Lombok for Local Experiences and Intermediate Surfers

If you are looking for a pristine beach where you can also have some local experiences, you should add Areguling Beach to your travel itinerary. It is located 9km west of Kuta Lombok and is a very uncommercial beach where you can find only a few local beach shacks and restaurants. Even though beach entry is a bit of a challenge because of the unpaved roads, you will be rewarded with nice views of palm trees, mountains, and local villages along the way. Have some traditional food on the beach, dip into the turquoise water and enjoy untouched nature.  

This beach is also one of the favorite spots of intermediate surfers thanks to its consistent bigger waves. To reach the surf breaks, you can take a boat from the beach for 50k IDR per person.
