Vegetarian Restaurants in Bangkok: Veganerie Concept

Vegan food does not get much more delicious than those dishes found at Veganerie Concept. Its menu is equipped with one of the largest selections of faux meat in the capital. This is refreshing in comparison to the vegetable-heavy dishes vegetarian travellers are used to in Southeast Asia. The business is a family one, with almost every member of them being vegetarian or vegan. Mother and co-founder, Kalayanee, chose to be vegan. Her health started to immensely improve. Soon afterwards she decided to open the restaurant. She did so in hopes that others might change their diets, as well. There are now a total of five instalments in the capital since Veganerie opened about two years ago.

The vegan Italian crepe (฿250) is eerily close to the real deal. It is made with Italian style pizza sauce and filled with soy sausages, champignons, soy cheese, and cashew nut parmesan. Mushrooms make up the majority of the vegan BBQ pulled pork (฿310). Diners will be convinced they are chowing down on chicken instead of cauliflower when they try the Hawaiian veggie teriyaki (฿290). Vegan food is hard to come by in Bangkok, let alone delicious vegan food.  For the most part, veg-heads are left to fend for themselves in this city. That being said, we found one of the most delicious vegan restaurants in Bangkok: May Veggie Home. “Cute” is the word that comes to mind when stepping foot into one of the best vegan restaurants in town. Even the name is cute. May Veggie Home’s food packs a very powerful, delicious punch into every dish, however. The restaurant first opened off the BTS Skytrain stop Thonglor in 2013 before moving to Asok in 2014. Vegetarian Restaurants in Bangkok: Govinda Restaurant & Pizzeria

One food item that vegans seem to miss most from their carnivorous glory days is cheese. What dairy-free diners would do to be able to delve into a cheese board without any moral or digestive repercussions! Now they can, however, thanks to Govinda Restaurant & Pizzeria. This Italian restaurant would impress even the most cheese-loving of the diner with their faux, dairy-free version of this food we all know and love. Though the restaurant’s interior is lacking any true charm, it does not have to impress visitors with cool decor when their food is that good.

The Menu

The menu at Govinda is broken up into an intimidating number of sections but has all the fixings that acclaimed Italian restaurants seemingly have. Kick-start a meal with bread or appetizers, featuring pizza bread (฿155), Schiacciata (฿145), or the bruschetta Margherita (฿155). All can be made vegan. There are a total of 21 pizzas on the menu ranging from ฿205-380, as well. You can add extra toppings or enjoy whole wheat crust if you so, please. There are also soups, salads, pasta, speciality pasta, home-made gnocchi, risotto, main courses, side dishes, and egg-free desserts on the menu. The most impressive section we think is the soy meat section. From grilled soy sausages (265) to soy snow fish with tomato, garlic, olives, and chilli, one cannot go wrong by exploring these seemingly meaty yet meat-free options.
