Getting From Bali to Lombok by Public Ferry or Speed Boat

There are 2 ferry options that depart from Bali — the speed boat and the public ferry. If you take the public ferry you also have a chance to take your scooter or car with you. Both boats depart from Padang Bai Harbour in Bali and arrive at Lembar Harbour in Lombok. Here are all the details you need to know about reaching Lombok by boat:

How to Get to the Gili Islands from Lombok

Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan are small beautiful islands belonging to Lombok that are known for their spectacular diving and snorkeling spots and a thriving nightlife scene. These islands can be reached from Lombok mainland by ferry and you can check out the all ferry options here

Getting around Lombok Island

 

  • Cars and Scooters

Renting a scooter is the most common way to get around Lombok. You will see a lot of rental places in Kuta Lombok and also you can check with your accommodation to rent a car or scooter. Daily rental prices are between 50k–100k IDR for scooters and around 300k IDR for cars. When you are renting a scooter most of the rental places won’t ask you for a driving license but make sure to check with your insurance company for your coverage. 

  • Private Car with a Driver 

If you don’t feel comfortable driving a scooter or a car you can arrange a car with a driver. Daily driver prices are starting from 500k IDR including the car rental and can be easily booked from your accommodation or one of many tour companies in Kuta Lombok.

  • Tours 

If you have limited time in Lombok you can join daily tours to discover the major attractions of the island. Most of the tours include hotel pick up and drop off and you can negotiate on tour prices. Tours can be arranged from your hotel and tour companies in Kuta Lombok. 

  • Taxis

Taxis have fixed prices for certain destinations starting from 100k IDR and negotiation on price is advised before your trip. From the airport to Kuta Lombok the taxi costs around 150k IDR and you can ask your accommodation to call a taxi for you when you want to get around on the island.

  • There is no public transportation in Lombok and on the contrary to Bali, popular ride apps like Gojak and Grab are not available. The most common way to get around on the island is renting a scooter, but make sure to have an international driving license and check your insurance coverage with your insurance company.
