Exploring Sydney in Spring
Watsons Bay is a popular tourist spot located on the southern side of the Sydney Heads. The naturally scenic area has incredible views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney skyline as well as a stunning clifftop walk. You can also discover the Hornby Lighthouse, perched atop of The Gap, a dramatic cliff point with a sheer drop to the surf below.
Wylie’s Baths is located just a few hundred metres south of Coogee Beach, tucked away below the magnificent Maroubra to Bondi coastal walkway. The Baths have 180-degree views of the Pacific Ocean and overlook the famous Wedding Cake Island.
Due to current health advice on social distancing, please contact the business for the most up to date information regarding opening times and services. (As of May 2020)
Sydney Farmers Markets
Sydney’s spring produces some of the freshest and most bountiful local produce so it’s a great time to visit some of Sydney’s best farmers markets. We recommend the Marrickville Organic Markets held every Sunday, the Carriageworks Farmers Market held every Saturday at Carriageworks in Redfern, and the Bondi Farmers Market on every Saturday in Bondi Beach.
Wendy Whitely Secret Gardens
The Wendy Whitely Secret Gardens are a hidden gem located near Luna Park in Lavender Bay. Wendy’s Secret Garden – which is at the foothill of her private home in Lavender Bay was designed by Wendy Whitely following the loss of her husband Australian artist Brett Whitely. The gardens are popular for nature lovers and also offer views of the harbour foreshore, Harbour Bridge and the fringes of North Sydney and the CBD.
Cockatoo Island is the largest of the islands in Sydney Harbour and has a unique history and heritage. In the 19th century the island was used as a prison as well as a large shipyard where Australian and their allies vessels were serviced during WWII.
Much of it’s heritage can still be felt with many of the historical buildings from the convict era still standing. Other buildings have a deserted feel making for a unique experience while on the island. Overnight accommodation is possible via both camping or timber cottages, both with a great outlook over the harbour.
Cockatoo island is also the home of a lot of pop up art and cultural activity throughout the year so it’s worth checking out to see if anything is happening when you’re visiting. In summertime there are often pop up bars on the waterfront which can have a great vibe for something different.
Hermitage Foreshore Walk
Less than 10km from Coogee is the Hermitage Foreshore Walk; a stunning 1.8km walk along from Rose Bay to Neilson Park. It’s not far, but this relaxing walk was made for lengthy pit stops – picnics, photo ops and great spots for swimming at a number of scenic beaches overlooking the harbour.
Spit to Manly Walk
As the name implies, the walk kicks off at the Spit Bridge and then follows the coastline around Clontarf, Dobroyd Head and Fairlight before arriving at the Manly wharf area. The walk offers spectacular city, harbour and ocean views and a number of aboriginal rock engravings and sites can also be found along the way. Plus you can’t help but marvel at the incredible harbour front mansions and dream big! Be advised that the walk has unpaved sections so we suggest hardy shoes for gravelly and rock surfaces.
Around the corner from Watson’s Bay, you’ll find one of Sydney’s cutest lighthouses overlooking the calm waters of Camp Cove on the edge of South Head. The lighthouse has incredible views across Sydney Harbour and the city is easily accessible via walking trails from Watsons Bay.
